Textbook rentals ease wallet woes

Buying books is not the only option anymore this semester

In some cases, the cost of textbooks has been so financially draining that some students have attempted to attend classes without them.  This is not a favorable solution for professors or students.  Some students have suggested and requested monetary relief concerning the cost of textbooks and reading materials that are required for effectively and successfully passing classes. The Dallas County Community College District has heard, and responded by partnering with Follett Higher Education Group for the new book rental program.  Full story

Financial Aid applications rise 55% over last six years

Financial aid numbers released this month by the District are sobering: Applications have risen more than 55 percent in the last six years, the number of applicants has increased 67 percent, and the number of Pell Grants has grown 63 percent, according to Rick Renshaw, executive District director for financial aid and scholarship programs of the DCCCD.
