Andrew (Ryan Renolds) and Margaret (Sandra Bullock) share a moment in front of Andrew's family.

For those movie-goers who are not attracted to guy films, such as The Hangover and Star Trek , Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds present a different option this summer.

The Proposal is a light-hearted romantic comedy about an uptight book editor, Margaret Tate (Bullock), living in New York who faces deportation to her native country, Canada.

Threatened by an immigration lawyer, Margaret's only option is to marry a U.S. citizen in order to stay in the states.

Margaret's authoritarian personality leaves her co-workers typing "It's here!" to each other as she walks into the office. Though her assistant editor Andrew (Reynolds) isn't much of a fan either, he still complies with Margaret every day.

He gets thrown for a loop when Margaret quickly blackmails him into being the "lawfully wedded groom." Andrew reluctantly accepts, knowing he could lose his dream job as editor some day if he doesn't.

Facing more warnings by the immigration lawyer, the couple flies to Alaska to officially announce the engagement to Andrew's parents.

Awkward moments naturally occur between the two, making this film flat-out silly. Margaret realizes how much the importance of family means to her, and contemplates not following through with her fixed marriage.

The film has its clique predictabilities, such as two people knowing they are meant for each other - all this and more in just three days.

Compared to other movies already released this summer, The Proposal may be a nice diversion for many who yearn for a romantic comedy.
