Do your parents know you’re a thespian? ...They do if you’re a part of North Lake’s drama department. The group runs on dedication, enthusiasm, and a passion for performing arts. That’s why it was no surprise when seven North Lake students decided to bring back the drama club and end its five-year hiatus.

Named ACTS, or Actors Community Theatre Society, the drama club is directed toward students with a love for the art. “No matter what your theater-related interest is, you can explore it in ACTS,” said Chase Contreras, ACTS treasurer.

Far from simply memorizing lines and dressing in costume, theatre deals with working together to create a powerful production. The backstage crew works hard building the set, managing the lights and sound, as well as putting together the costumes and props.

Theatrical interests could include acting, stagecraft, or even voice and articulation. No matter your major, the drama department is a great tool to improve presentation, teamwork, and as mechanical skills that you will take with you whether you transfer to a four-year university or not.

The club is dedicated to growing as actors by learning from fellow thespians, as well as helping out the Irving community by reaching out to a variety of charities.

You do not have to be involved with a production to join, but it is highly encouraged. If you are currently enrolled in a theater-related course, or have a genuine interest in joining the department, come find out how you can be involved with this brand new club.

All levels of experience are welcome. Contact Alice Butler (abutler@dcccd.edu) for more information.
